I love when designers bring new styles and collaborations to the market. Universal Standard is known for elevated, modern basics that are anything but basic!
Tomorrow (11/14), the Universal Standard x Danielle Brooks collection launches! The Tria Collection is a set of 3 pieces designed by the Orange is the New Black star. It includes a set of overalls, an off the shoulder dress, and a poplin shirt dress, which I was able to try:

Necklace, Best of Everything
For reference, I’m wearing the Universal Standard size XL, which is a 26/28. I’m 5’10, and these are about 3″ heels.
I’ll be honest that shirt dresses are usually nightmares on me. The bust is usually way too small with major gaping, the fabric usually wrinkles, and it doesn’t really give any shape. This dress blew my mind with the fit and details! Also, POCKETS!
There is some pulling in these photos, but I could easily adjust the dress and have it not pull like that. I need a posture lesson, ha! The poplin fabric was crisp, but had stretch to it and didn’t wrinkle nearly as easily as many other poplin fabrics. The wrap detail with the pleats was a really fun, elevated detail that dismisses any notion that the dress is basic.
The dress is listed as teal on the site, but it’s more of a dark teal tinge on forest green – and it’s beautiful and perfect for fall. I paired it with these fun embroidered block heels from ELOQUII.
Bonus Styling Tip: Add opaque tights or leggings, knee high boots, and a denim jacket or blazer for a great layered look.
I’m really thrilled with this dress between the fit, quality, and design. It makes me want to try the off-the-shoulder sweater dress Danielle has previewed on her Instagram:
There are also overalls in the collection, which I’m intrigued by. I hope to see how they look on others!
Bravo to Danielle and the Universal Standard team for bringing these fresh options to us. Make sure to shop the collection when it drops tomorrow, 11/14. I have a feeling the pieces will go quickly!
